A TAXI driver parked at High Wycombe bus station punched and kicked a cyclist who clipped his vehicle.

The 34-year-old was punched off his bike and kicked as he lay on the floor at the Bridge Street bus station on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Police are now hunting the hackney carriage driver.

A statement from Thames Valley Police said: "At approximately 2.30pm on Saturday a 34-year-old man was riding his pedal bike past the bus station in Bridge Street when he clipped the side of a parked Hackney Carriage Taxi with his handle bars; however, no damage was caused to the taxi.

"The taxi driver then punched the victim, causing him to fall off his bike, and kicked him as he lay on the floor.

"The taxi driver has short, neat, dark hair and a goatee beard. He was wearing a light blue top and jeans."

PC Marea Logan, investigating the crime, said: "This was a particularly violent attack that took place in broad day light."

Yet another violent attack in our town centre.

Is crime out of control in our town? I think it is. Read my special blog on crime to find out more.

Lucky for the taxi driver the cyclist wasn't Chris Hoy. They'd have still be sweeping that taxi driver off the road now I'd imagine.

I'm amazed the taxi driver needed to punch him, normally their offensive BO is enough to knock most people out

What make, model and colour of car/taxi?

That info, coupled with description of the driver ought to narrow it down a lot.

WDC would know the identities of all registered taxi drivers.

So far all of the comments have been against the taxi driver.I agree that his actions went way overboard, but also, the cyclist should bear some blame. After all it was him who was riding too close or not paying attention. BFP, lets hear more about the cyclist. Was he wearing a helmet,(what color) speeding, weaving, medically or substance impaired? Did he stop to apologize or keep on riding? What if he had clipped a pram or a pregnant lady or kid and seriously injured them. If he has no respect for the rules of the road and others around him, then he should have his cycle taken away from him. That's my tuppence worth of comment. Now let's hope the Taxi Driver either turns himselve in or gets caught.

IVOR, here is another idea for one of your blogs. How do cyclists behave on the road? Over here 90% of them think they own the road and do whatever they want to include breaking every law that applies to motorists.

An excellent idea. I will cover this subject in my next blog published on Thursday evening.

taxi drivers drive like complete idiots around this town. they pull out of junctions when there's not enough space-causing you to slam brakes on, pull over to the left /right without indicating (or pull out), cut you up on round-a-bouts, drive up your a*se etc etc ....

BUT GOD FORBID you do anything to them!!

they're a law unto themselves and need to learn how to drive safely-they are a menace to us all.

hope the cyclist is o.k. -o'k so he should've been a tad more careful but then they need to learn to always be aware of other road users too!

use the roads or a taxi at your peril...

Yawn! As soon as there is a story about a cyclist being involved in anything in the papers you get the same old idiots complaining about how bad cyclist behave on the roads. What is it with you people and your generalisations about cyclists?!?!?

Is it jealousy that you're fat and unfit and cyclists are actually fit and healthy? Is it guilt that you are using your car for a short journey when you should be walking or cycling yourself? Or is it just the fact that you don't like sharing the road because you are just so important?

Just like car drivers, within the cyclists group some are good and some (a small minority) are bad. The BIG difference is that when a cyclist does something against the law it doesn't end up in death or severe injury whereas thousands of pedestrians and car drivers are KILLED every year due to not paying attention.

I'm sure I can depend on Ivor to give a sensible and balanced view on cycling. NOT !
