FOOD and drinks worth around £150 were stolen from a football club following a break-in at the weekend.

Thieves smashed a window to the pavilion of Chalfont Saints Football Club, which is based within the grounds of the National Society for Epilepsy in Chalfont St Peter.

Mike Saunders from the club said: “The window was smashed and they tried to kick the door open. They stole lots of sweets and soft drinks, large catering-sized tins of coffee and four catering-sized packs of bacon.”

Mr Saunders said the club was considering putting up wooden shutters over the windows to prevent a similar attack.

CCTV footage could not clearly identify anybody who may have broken in.

The break-in was discovered at 8am on Sunday by a parent who had come to prepare for the day's football matches. The club operates 26 teams, with more than 350 members.

Mr Saunders said: “You just get annoyed because it's a real nuisance.

“The police think it was a group of older people. Sixty bottles of Lucozade went missing – you can't put that all in your pockets.”

He said he thought it was an unusual thing to steal: “I don't know what they want to do with a catering-sized tin of coffee.”
