Speed cameras make drivers miss real hazards
12:41pm Friday 15th August 2008
IN bringing up the issue of the hounding of the motorist, I will inevitably provoke the "Well if you don't want to get caught, then don't break the law" response from the ranks of the righteous.

It's time to stamp out this tax
1:14pm Friday 8th August 2008
THEY say that the three most stressful life events are the death of a loved one, moving house and divorce. It is therefore staggering that those of our lords and masters who lurk within the musty confines of the treasury see fit to use two of those events as opportunities to tax us.

If only I could have a garden make-over
2:33pm Friday 1st August 2008
A LOT of my professional life involves touring with assorted theatrical productions. On my wanderings around the country my constant driving companions tend to be Radios 4 and 5; the latter for the sport and the former because it provides a great mixture of information and entertainment.

TV exposes the leniency meted out to thugs
1:50pm Friday 25th July 2008
THERE is a late-night fly-on-the-wall programme that follows a group of Thames Valley Police mobile patrols. 12:12pm Friday 11th July 2008
IT IS a perplexing time, observing our young moving from childhood into the world that we have fashioned for them. And I use those last words advisedly. It is the world that we have created that they now inherit.

Listening to the views of the ignorant is a turn-off
2:21pm Friday 4th July 2008
IT USED to be the case that the airing of extreme and ill-informed opinions was restricted to a group of cronies propping up the bar in the local pub or cabbies projecting their world view pronouncements over their shoulders, as caricatured in the movies of decades past.

Treasure Family GPs while you still have them
11:17am Friday 27th June 2008
WHEN I was a lad, the previous generation were always telling us how tough things were when they were young - and how lucky we were to be living in an era where things were getting better every day.

Shop lays bare why it bans naked dummies
1:48pm Friday 20th June 2008
I VOWED that I wouldn't revisit the world of jobsworths and political correctness again for a while, but sometimes the best intentions of your columnist are thwarted by circumstances that are too compelling to resist.

Miller's tale is so unfair on David Tennant
11:47pm Friday 13th June 2008
SIR Jonathan Miller has complained that West End theatres put celebrity ahead of quality. He bemoans the fact that producers won't back ventures that don't have star names.
